Opening Reception at Turner Carroll, Friday, August 4, 5–7 pm
August marks the second anniversary of the passing of our friend, the incredible artist and humanist, Hung Liu. The past year she has enjoyed fantastic recognition by the art world, including a grand exhibition at the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C., Portraits of Promised Lands. This year we will highlight one of her most enduring and moving subjects: mothers and children. Liu once said, when asked about her paintings of women and children from other cultures and races: “We can adopt each other’s children, and we can adopt each other’s ancestors, as well.”
