Hung Liu’s A Hundred Flowers Bloom is a work inspired by hopes for transformation and good fortune. The cherry blossoms and butterflies Hung uses in this work symbolize good fortune and transformation.
Hung Liu is one of the world’s most appreciated artists, and she has the uncanny ability to touch not only art critics and museum curators, but also ordinary people with her work. Liu’s work comes from a deep place of understanding humanity, which she gained from her own personal trials growing up as a migrant in communist China and then again in the United States.
Hung Liu’s works will be the subject of a major retrospective at the National Portrait Gallery in 2021, as well as a major work installation at the de Young Museum in San Francisco. She is an artistic treasure of our time.
