Hung Liu hails from a long lineage of intellectuals. Her father was a leader in the opposition forces against communism, and was ultimately locked in a forced labor camp until his death. Liu’s grandfather, pictured here, was a scholar who spent a great deal of time researching the temples at Quian Shan, which was considered the most beautiful spot in China.
