A major work from her “Birth Project” and “Childbirth in America” series, this work is part of Judy Chicago’s groundbreaking collaboration with needleworkers all over the United States, in which she explored images of birth as symbols of female creative power. Crowning Quilt 8 of 9 features drawing, hand-painting, and color specifications by Judy Chicago, with Dianne Barber and Rebecca Hanner collaborating with the batik and embroidery portions of the work.
This work is accompanied by multiple didactic educational panels describing childbirth in America. It has been featured in numerous museum exhibitions, including her “Birth Project” exhibition at the Harwood Art Museum in Taos, New Mexico.
