Nele Zirnete’s Prayer is an intaglio etching printed in Riga, Latvia, by the artist in 1988. It is signed by the artist. It is notable that this print was created in 1988, before the 1989 disintegration of the former Soviet Socialist Republic. It is rare to gave such an authentic glimpse into the Communist era world through art. Nele Zirnite (born May 27, 1959 in Lithuania) is a graphic artist, painter, associated printmaking professor and Guildmaster of the Etching Guild in Latvia. She studied graphic arts at the Vilnius Academy of Arts and The Art Academy of Latvia. From 1995–2003 she lectured at the Graphic Arts Department in the Art Academy of Latvia. In 2017 Nele Zirnite received the Italian Graphic Arts award, accompanied by a solo exhibition. Her works have won numerous international printmaking awards, and have been included in art history books.
