Rex Ray’s, mono print work, Untitled #769, uses a formal division within the piece to distinguish between areas of darker and lighter color schemes, where the top half is characterized by a more intricate composition and the bottom a less organic structure. Far from being entirely distinct, however, the two forms come together in the center, revealing a collision of two worlds, ideas, or simply shapes. Ray’s work plays with a variety of textures and quality of line, ranging from the graininess of a wood surface to the subtle interaction between red and yellow in the swirl of the lower quadrant.
Rex Ray’s works have been featured in major museums, such as San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Denver Art Museum, and Denver Museum of Contemporary Art.
