The Red Badge of Courage
Dimensions: 38 x 38 x 1.5″
Media: photographic reconstruction
In The Red Badge of Courage, Rusty Scruby has taken a photograph and distorted it to the point of abstraction, where the work is simultaneously reminiscent of a natural or fabricated scene. Scruby encourages audience participation within the photographic reconstruction, where the work at first glance appears flat, but upon closer examination undulates as if made from a less tangible and solid material. Cohesive with his larger body of work, Scruby introduces the intersectionality of science and art, using the linear and precise to inform his sense of creativity and formal exploration.
