This three dimensional wall sculpture was inspired by Walter Robinson’s move to the Southwest. The glove is a miner’s glove, patched with elements from the Periodic Table. These elements are those which have been stripped out of the earth. The glove is made of the skin of animals which have been exposed to this mining. Featuring six, rather than five, fingers, the glove represents the quasi-imperceptibility of natural mutations that occur in response to human impact. As the missile, glorified by the gemstone indicates, humans often exploit the natural world; hence the double meaning of the title “Mine.”
