Antoine Williams – Future Past Series #4

Antoine Williams’ mixed-media work investigates his cultural identity by exploring power, fear and the perception of signs within society. Heavily influenced by science fiction, and his rural, working-class upbringing in Red Springs, North Carolina, Antoine has created his own mythology about the complexities of contemporary Black life. Antoine received his BFA from the University of North Carolina, Charlotte, and his MFA from UNC Chapel Hill. He has been awarded a Joan Mitchell Award as well as a Joan Mitchell Artist Residency. Numerous other accolades include a Pollock Krasner Foundation grant and a residency at the Center for Afro-futurism studies. Museum interest has been strong for Williams’ paintings; his works have been exhibited at The Nasher Museum of Art, The Mint Museum of Art, Michigan State University Museum, North Carolina Museum of Art, Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art, Columbia Museum of Art, Smack Mellon, Brooklyn, 21c Museum, et al.
