Dale Chihuly is a world-renowned glass artist who has been creating vibrant works on paper for over thirty years as preparatory sketches in for his glass sculpture as a way for Chihuly to communicate his ideas to team members as they work on projects, as he lost sight in one eye in the 1970s. The work is offered framed, signed, and is in very good condition. The dimensions are 31 x 23″ and the weight is approximately 10 pounds. It is a rare, collectible work.

Chihuly received two Fulbright Fellowships that took him to Venice to study glass. It was there that he studied with famed Italian glassmaker, Lino Tagliapietra, and learned to fuse Venetian traditions in glass blowing with his modern aesthetics. Chihuly brought these ideas and techniques back to the United States where they flourished. This lithograph features forms that undoubtedly reference the shapes and translucency that can be achieved with Chihuly’s glass practice, adding to the significance of this particular image.

Chihuly holds a BA from the University of Washington, Seattle and an MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). He co-founded the Pilchuck Glass School.
