Didier Mahieu was born in St-Ghislain in 1961. Trained at the Higher School of Visual and Plastic Arts in Mons, he has been a tenured professor of the painting workshop there since 1999.
In his large-scale installations, drawings, paintings, sounds, photographs, films, and objects engage in a subtle dialogue, opening onto a perpetually evolving laboratory. His drawing and painting, connected to the work of the Old Masters, remain the starting point for developing a personal mythology, a history of intimacy, the sacred, time, disappearance, and metamorphosis.
His career includes numerous solo and group exhibitions, notably at the Museum of Modern Art in Ostend, Les Brigittines in Brussels, Chelsea Art Museum in New York, The Economist Plaza in London, the National Museum of Beijing, Cube in Moscow, and the MAMAC in Nice, among others.
His works are included in several public collections.
