Jamie Brunson – Gitane
Dimensions: 48 x 48″
Media: oil and alkyd on polyester over panel
Jamie Brunson’s Gitane, or Gypsy, conjures up old world imagery of dark nights with gypsies gathered around the campfire centered in a ring of caravan wagons. It evokes the sound of music and laughter rising up in the dark forest. The color blue comes to mind with the gypsy dancer on the French cigarette packs. Colors make lasting impressions in our minds and our dreams and conjure up past experiences. The wavy lines also relate to the blue Gitane cigarette pack image with the gypsy dancer’s flowing hair.
Blue is considered beneficial to the mind and body. It slows human metabolism and produces a calming effect in the same manner as do art and music. Blue’s spiritual symbolism is the healing power of God. It represents, biblically, the Word of God. Some believe that The very fact that the Sky is blue stands for the presence of Yahweh, in some spiritual beliefs.
