Jamie Brunson’s Matrix is a manifestation of her profound Kundalini Meditiation practice. In mainstream understanding, a matrix is a system that allows a system to move forward and develop into something greater than it already was. In her painting titled Matrix, Jamie Brunson utilizes Kundalini chakra-based color theory. In this work, red signifies the first, or support/pillar chakra, related to core human urges such as survival, bravery, and strength. It is the red color that represents vital energy for us to overcome life-threatening circumstances.
The blue color in Brunson’s Matrix symbolizes the still waters of calm and tranquility. In the chakra system, it is associated with the throat chakra. The manner in which Jamie Brunson combines the red and the blue in her Matrix painting creates a color situation in which the (red) energy needed for survival is balanced with the (blue) tranquility necessary for long-term peace.
Jamie Brunson’s paintings are found in several museum collections, most recently the New Mexico State University Museum.
