Media: acrylic on canvas
John Barker’s Angry Man can be read as a physical representation of movement, rather than simply an acrylic depiction of a man on canvas. With its dynamic lines and use of color, the work encapsulates the simultaneity of feeling and form, as if in a single moment Barker sought to capture what he mentally conceived, in the same spontaneous manner that a writer jots notes in a notebook. Within the piece, Barker seeks to capture what he considers to be the impermanence of man and human creation, as well as escape the reaches of social media and the limitations of technology through artistic creation.
