Chicago’s Flashback in Relief, 2021, is a freshly re-imagined 3-D iteration of her iconic Flashback, Version 2 (owned by the Museum of Modern Art in New York.) Chicago’s minimalism was included in the influential 1965 exhibition “Primary Structures” at the Jewish Museum in New York and was a precursor to her feminist work. Her investigation of the economies of line and color were intrinsic to her later explorations of female and “central core” imagery.
