Judy Chicago’s artworks are found in the permanent collections of the world’s top museums. This drawing is Judy Chicago’s design for the lettering in her most famous work, The Dinner Party. The Dinner Party is widely regarded as the most important wok in the history of Feminist Art, and resides in its own designated gallery at the Brooklyn Art Museum. This is an extremely rare work and is highly collectible. The elaborate designs of the letters show the “illuminated” lettering style Chicago chose for this project, which is an apt analogy for the illumination the women depicted in The Dinner Party shed upon civilization.
Gloria Steinem, upon introducing her long time friend as she was being honored by the Hammer Museum, famously said she could define art history as before and after Judy Chicago. There are numerous monographs and books about Judy Chicago, including the most recent monograph published by National Museum of Women in the Arts.
