Artwork Description
Marietta Patricia Leis – Reveal 6
Dimensions: 12.75 diam x 2.5″ unframed
Year:
Medium: oil on wood
Reveal, originally inspired by the idea of the Earth being
excavated with impending danger to the planet’s future,
was made during the first year of Covid-19. The work
moved slowly as it yielded each day to the virus’ news and
my isolation. Hope and despair wrestled with the
resolution of each piece. Earth’s internal mass seemed to
me, at times, as an illusion of Covid-19 virus. The round
wood formats were sourced from the internet and are
painted on both sides. They extend from the wall to meet
the viewer and then the viewer can drop into its concave
well or abyss as the Covid news continues to disrupt.
They are as ambiguous as the era and ready for the
viewer’s interpretation.
