Mindy Lam grew up in rural China and owned a farm. Lam was awestruck by the traveling theater groups that would sometimes perform in her town. The way their costumes sparkled enthralled her. Lam would stand under the wooden planks of the stage and gather the sparkling residue of the actors’ regalia, creating her first artworks from them when she was just a small girl. The butterfly and flower motif is one she carries with her since that time. Lam relocated to the U.S., where she has met with great artistic success. Her work is currently the subject of a solo exhibition at the Taubman Museum of Art, previously at The Leonhardt Galleries in the Berkshires, and in esteemed private collections.
