This new body of work, the Arc series, takes Laget’s Geometric Abstraction shaped canvases to another world in which painting meets sculpture. Each piece in this series is molded by an arced spine beneath the canvas that allows the surface of the painting to protrude gently towards the viewer. This particular work, Arc (Orb), most succinctly illustrates Laget’s fascination with perception. At first glance when standing directly in from of the canvas, the entire painting appears to be on a flat 2 dimensional place with the center line appearing straight and sharply vertical. By moving left or right, the form reveals itself as the moon shape seems to wax and wane, bend and flex, with the position of the viewer. Laget’s works are featured in many prominent museum and private collections. She was recently highlighted as one of the few women who became legacy to the Washington Color School. Laget was Color School artist Gene Davis’s studio manager for several years.
