This work is based on the fire that broke out in the Shirtwaist Factory in New York. Every woman working in the factory died in the fire, because the doors had been locked. Honig created this work using one letter from the alphabet for something related to the fire, perhaps a woman’s name. Each hanger features a letter on the front and an image and description of the meaning on the other side.
