Suzanne Sbarge – Singer

Artwork Description

Dimensions: 9 x 9″
Year: 2017
Media: mixed media on panel

Suzanne Sbarge’s mixed media on panel work, Singer, uses painted and collaged elements in a scene that appears as if it was pulled from a dream; while there are recognizable aspects of the piece such as the bird or flowers below, they have been arranged in a way that encourages viewers to reconsider their previous perceptions of reality and formal construction. While the central figure smiles from the background of the piece, his red coloring and replaced eyes—a feature often central to personal identity—de-humanize him and render an otherwise familiar individual foreign.

Suzanne Sbarge’s magical works have been featured at the Albuquerque Museum, as well as numerous other museums throughout the U.S.
