Traian Filip’s I Remember is an amazing etching that always conjures up the most loving and compassionate way the we take care of each other in good times and in bad. We must all be angels! The central figure is Michael the archangel, the first warrior, that seems to be holding back the pain and uncertainty we experience as humans. The hand coming forward to the left seems to be reaching out to comfort and guide. The feminine look of the hand has the energy of a mother. The crown Michael wears atop his head is a city or as I see, the heart of Humanity.
Traian Filip: His Art and Life is a monograph about this incredible artist’s life. Filip was the head of the Romanian State Engraving Studios in the late 1980s, during the terrible reign of dictator Nicolae Ceausescu. Filip’s etchings are visually encoded with symbolism that ultimately allowed him to express his humanitarian concerns for the Romanian people. Filip’s works are featured in the Vatican Museum’s contemporary art collection, as well as many other museums throughout the world. Filip has had solo exhibitions of his work throughout he world, from Egypt to California.
