The blind archers are an army of women in Virgil Ortiz’s rendition of the 1680/2180 Pueblo Revolt saga. When the Castillian army had occupied her pueblo, a young girl named Tahu challenged the best of them to a duel. She won, and the Castillians then blinded the eyes of Tahu and all the other young girls in the Pueblo. The blind archers formed an army, and together they overthrew the Castillians, forcing them to leave their pueblo. The blind archers embody the female protagonist in Ortiz’s multiverse of sculpture, drawing, narrative, and immersive video environments.
