Artwork Description
William T. Wiley – Once Upon A Time
Dimensions: 26 x 30″
Year: 1982
Medium: lithograph on silk
This gorgeous multiple by William Wiley is one of the most innovative works created by the artist in conjunction with Jack Lemon at Landfall Press. The artwork is comprised of layers of different colors of silk. Each silk layer is printed with the words Once upon a time in each of the four corresponding corners. When the layers of silk are stacked upon each other, they create a dreamy, otherworldly image that captivates the viewer. Wiley is regarded as a quintessentially important artist of the 21st century, who was central to the development of conceptual art and explorations of what makes art “art.” His works are included in nearly every major museum collection in the United States, and is the subject of numerous retrospectives exhibitions, books and movies.
