Hung Liu: Memory and Revolution, July 28 to September 4, 2023. Opening Reception at Turner Carroll, Friday, July 28, 5-7 pm. August marks the second anniversary of the passing of our friend, the incredible artist and humanist, Hung Liu. Liu once said, when asked about her paintings of women and children from other cultures and races: “We can adopt each other’s children, and we can adopt each other’s ancestors, as well.” You are invited to see and check-in with these ancestors who are both universal and specific. Camille Claudel's masterwork L'implorante is on view now at Turner Carroll. L'Implorante is the young Camille, laid bare with soul-wrenching longing, imploring her lover Auguste Rodin to remain with her. In 1905, Claudel worked with her friend and esteemed art dealer Eugene Blot in Paris to cast in bronze both a large-scale edition (this one) and a small-scale edition of L'Implorante. The sculpture is featured in her catalogue raisonné, and is accompanied by a letter of authenticity signed by the author of the catalogue raisonné.
